Joe Piaso Jr.

Joe Piaso Jr. was born on December 10, 1957, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and grew up on the Navajo reservation in Canoncito. His journey into jewelry making began at an early age, inspired by watching his grandfather craft beautiful pieces. Joe's formal training in silversmithing started at the Albuquerque Boarding School, where he learned from a talented Santa Domingo Indian artist. By the time he was thirteen, he had honed his skills sufficiently to create and sell his own jewelry, which not only boosted his confidence but also provided him with some extra spending money.

After completing his education, Joe married Melinda, and together they welcomed two children, Lyle and Opal. Lyle has followed in his father's footsteps, developing a keen interest in silversmithing, and Joe has taken great joy in teaching him the craft. Now in his third decade as a silversmith, Joe continues to work alongside Lyle, ensuring that their artistic legacy and the traditions of Navajo craftsmanship are passed down through the generations. Their collaborative efforts not only reflect a strong familial bond but also a shared commitment to preserving the art form that has shaped their lives.

The Blue Bird Turquoise Mine is a small, somewhat obscure operation. Very little known about it and very little material has ever been mined. The color ranges from stunning sky blue to dark blue hues. The turquoise often contains quartz and occasionally pyrite inclusions,

Inside circumference measurements listed for cuff bracelets represent the total inside circumference, including the gap.
