Darrel Cadman

The Cadman and Reeves brothers are renowned for their exceptional silverwork, seamlessly blending traditional Navajo styles with contemporary craftsmanship and detail. Darrel, born in 1969, is particularly known for tackling unique forms, such as boxes—an increasingly rare type of Navajo silver artistry, especially when executed with such mastery.

Silversmithing runs deep in his family, and the highest quality work is not only evident in Darrel’s creations but also in those of his brothers, Donovan and Andy, as well as his half-brothers, Gary and Sunshine Reeves. Each of them learned the craft from David Reeves, their late brother, whose legacy in Navajo silver and turquoise jewelry artistry remains profound.

This group of relatively young smiths, having trained under David, shares a common background of apprenticeship, which is reflected in the similarities of their work. Darrel has been crafting and selling silver pieces since 1992, perfecting the traditional art of cluster work. His most sought-after pieces feature heavy silver and an array of stones, showcasing his mastery of distinctive deep stamping in traditional Navajo patterns. Darrel consistently emphasizes texture and depth in his designs, producing both highly adorned pieces and those with clean, simple lines. He signs his work with a "D" or "D Cadman" along with a ram's head.

Sonoran Turquoise: Mexico

Sonoran turquoise, mined from the Campitos Mountain near Cananea, Sonora, Mexico. This region produces several distinctive types, including Sonoran Gold, known for its vibrant colors like aqua blue, lime, and two-tone blue and green with a golden-brown matrix; Sonoran Rose, a natural bright blue turquoise; and Sonoran Blue, valued for its hardness, shiny pyrite flakes, and black oxide veins.
