Paul Livingston
Paul Livingston, born in 1954, is an acclaimed Navajo silversmith who has spent his entire life on the Church Rock Reservation. From a young age, he was fascinated by the artistry of his uncle, who transformed raw metal and stone into exquisite jewelry. Under his uncle’s guidance and with hands-on practice, Paul developed his skills, eventually becoming a highly accomplished jeweler.
By the age of twenty-two, he dedicated himself to silversmithing full-time, and he has since gained national recognition. Paul is particularly celebrated for his mastery of "cluster and row work," a technique involving the meticulous arrangement of multiple small stones—often including tiny "snake eye" stones—into vibrant, intricate patterns. His precise alignment of these clusters sets his work apart, creating striking designs that draw admiration.
Throughout his nearly forty-year career, Paul has continually pushed the boundaries of traditional Navajo jewelry, experimenting with new techniques, textures, and finishes to enhance the beauty of his pieces. While his work is rooted in traditional and vintage-inspired Navajo styles, his contemporary designs are equally popular. His intricate saw work demonstrates the technical expertise and artistic vision that have come to define his jewelry. Paul Livingston's creations honor his heritage while standing out for their beauty and craftsmanship, making them highly prized among collectors and art enthusiasts alike.
