Melvin Francis

Melvin Francis is a skilled Navajo silversmith celebrated for his contemporary approach that fuses simple yet elegant silverwork with vibrant gemstones. His artistry incorporates a variety of techniques, including custom fabrication, overlay, and traditional stampwork, enabling him to craft distinctive pieces that honor both modern aesthetics and traditional craftsmanship. Melvin credits his father, Ted Francis, as his main mentor in his artistic journey. Coming from a creatively rich family, he has ties to several other artists, including his uncle Fred Francis, and his sisters Myrtle and Marlynn Francis, as well as his mother, Erma Francis, who is a talented weaver. His aunt, Anna Clyde, is also known for her exceptional weaving skills, further emphasizing the deep artistic heritage that influences him. Melvin Francis resides in Gallup, New Mexico.

White Buffalo:

White Buffalo is in fact NOT turquoise. Although White Buffalo is often sold as turquoise, it's classification is actually magnesite and alumite. Its unique coloring comes from the presence of Calcite mineral. The only mine known to be home to White Buffalo is The Dry Creek Mine in Tonopah, NV. It was first discovered by the Otteson family in 1993. The name derives from the Native American belief that white buffaloes are pure and rare like the white buffalo stone. The white stone is surrounded by black and brown flint-like chert which creates beautiful patterns, and sometimes in rare pieces, a spider-web matrix. The stone appears in veins, is as hard as turquoise (Mohs hardness scale of 5.5 to 7.5) and cuts and polishes like turquoise.

Inside circumference measurements listed for cuff bracelets represent the total inside circumference, including the gap. When selecting a cuff bracelet, keep in mind that the gap allows for some flexibility in sizing, as cuffs can be gently adjusted for a more comfortable fit. Cuffs with multiple stones may be adjustable on a case-by-case basis. If the listed measurements do not meet your needs, we recommend inquiring about adjustability before purchasing. Improperly adjusting cuffs can compromise the stone settings.
