Bobby Johnson

Bobby Johnson is a respected Navajo silversmith based in Church Rock, New Mexico, a community known for its rich tradition of Native American jewelry-making. As one of the "elders" in the silverworking community, Bobby is highly esteemed for his expertise and production skills, often sought after for guidance by fellow artisans.

Bobby’s journey in silversmithing began in the early 1970s, learning the craft from his older siblings, who are also skilled silversmiths. Growing up in a family dedicated to this art, he developed a profound love for working with silver and turquoise that has only deepened over the years. Now in his sixties, Bobby remains as productive as ever, creating unique designs that blend traditional techniques with his personal style.

His pieces are celebrated for their quality and craftsmanship, earning him a loyal following among collectors of Native American jewelry. Bobby’s passion for his craft ensures that his creations will continue to be cherished for years to come.

Candelaria Turquoise - Nevada

The Candelaria Hills in Southwest Nevada are home to numerous turquoise mines, both large and small. Candelaria turquoise is sourced from the silver mine owned by the Silver Standard Company and is mined sporadically, as the area has primarily been exploited for silver and gold since the mid-1800s.

The turquoise produced in this region can rival some of the finest in the world, typically forming in thin veins that range from deep electric blue to medium greens, often featuring black, red, and brown matrix.

The highest grade of Candelaria turquoise showcases a striking dark blue color with red webbing, making it very rare and highly sought after by collectors. Additionally, the area is known for producing beautiful spider-webbed variscite, which can also hold significant value.
